One day some parents brought their children to Jesus so he could lay his hands on them and pray for them… Jesus said, “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children.” Matthew 19:13-14

The purpose of child dedication is twofold:

Firstly, it is to pray a prayer of blessing for the child. We ask God to watch over His child, bless His child in all the areas of their life, and that the child would grow in their faith and love for God.
Secondly, it is to pray a prayer of blessing for the parents and family of the child that they would be an example to their children and that they would teach their children the ways of God. We pray God would give them wisdom in raising their children in a godly way.
