Our annual 10 days of Prayer and Fasting is running from the 22nd of January to the 31st of January 2024
Prayer and fasting are two core values of Christ followers throughout the Bible and even today. This is a unique opportunity for us to set our sights on God as we head into the year and trust him for his strength and favour.
WHY SHOULD I FAST?
Fasting gives you more time for prayer because you are abstaining from something of value. You can devote time to prayer that you would normally spend eating or watching TV or scrolling social media. The cravings that come from the hunger pains are a reminder to pray.
Fasting also shows your deep desire for your prayer request. It shows you that you are serious enough about your prayer request to pay a personal price.
God honours this kind of deep desire and sacrifice.
WHAT CAN I FAST?
Traditionally, fasting refers to abstaining from food or drink during a period of spiritual growth to become closer to God. But in modern times, fasting can include abstaining from anything that is sacrificial to you. Such as: television, social media, video games, certain apps, certain music a type of food (coffee, sugar, etc.).
TYPES OF FOOD FASTS
Full Fast – Drink only liquids.
The Daniel Fast – Eat no meat, no sweets and no bread. Drink water and juice. Eat fruits and vegetables.
Partial Fast – A partial fast is from 6:00 am to 3:00 pm or from sunrise to sundown.
WHAT CAN I PRAY FOR?
Holy Spirit’s presence and influence in my life.
Miraculous provision in my life.
God’s will and favour for my life.
God’s guidance and wisdom.
Resisting temptation.
God’s blessing and favour over our church, city and country
